WordPress runs a huge share of the web, so it’s the default answer to “I want a blog.” But defaults aren’t always the right fit. If your site is a simple blog or content site — posts, pages, maybe a contact form — it’s worth asking honestly: do you still need all of WordPress in 2026, or are you paying for power you never use?
What WordPress is actually built for
WordPress is a dynamic CMS designed for sites that change per request and per user: logged-in members, comments posted live, e-commerce carts, complex multi-author workflows. That power comes with a database, a login panel, constant updates, and a hosting bill — all of which you maintain whether you use those features or not.
What a simple blog actually needs
A typical blog needs far less:
- Publish and edit posts and pages
- Categories, tags, and an RSS feed
- Good SEO and fast load times
- A contact form
- Maybe comments
None of that requires a live database on every page view. It can all be pre-built into static files — which is why static site generators exist.
When you still do need WordPress
Be honest about the exceptions. Stick with WordPress (or a dynamic platform) if you have:
- A real store (WooCommerce) with live inventory and checkout
- Membership / paywalled content with user logins
- Heavy, interactive, per-user functionality
If that’s you, static isn’t the right move. For most blogs and business sites, it is.
What you gain by dropping it
For a simple site, going static means no updates, no plugin conflicts, no database to hack, sub-second loads, and free hosting — while keeping a visual editor so publishing still feels familiar. And it’s cheaper: one-time cost vs years of renewals.
ZeroPress migrates your WordPress blog to a static site you own and host free, with rankings preserved — one-time, no subscription. (See pricing; compare the alternatives.)
